How Moving My Body Helped My Mental Health After Becoming a Mom

When I became a mom, I expected sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and a calendar that revolved entirely around my baby.

What I didn’t expect was how easy it would be to forget about me.

Somewhere between feedings and nap schedules, I stopped doing the little things that used to keep me grounded. And while my heart was full, my own energy tank felt constantly empty.

Why Movement Matters for Moms

Motherhood can be all-consuming, but taking time for ourselves isn’t selfish — it’s survival. For me, moving my body again wasn’t just about “getting back in shape.” It was about:

  • Releasing tension from long days and even longer nights

  • Getting a mental break from the constant mental load

  • Feeling strong and capable outside of my role as “mom”

  • Boosting my mood when postpartum blues crept in

I found that even short bursts of movement — a yoga class, reformer pilates, a stretch session — made a massive difference in my patience, my sleep, and my overall happiness.

The Challenge: Finding Time and Flexibility

The biggest hurdle was fitting anything into my unpredictable schedule. I didn’t want to commit to one gym or one rigid timetable. Some days I wanted high-energy cardio, other days something restorative, and sometimes… just a massage.

That’s when I found ClassPass.

The Tool That Made It Easier

ClassPass gave me the freedom to try different gyms, fitness studios, and wellness spots — all through one app. It wasn’t just about workouts; I could also book facials, massages, and other recovery treatments.

The flexibility was a game changer:

  • Choose from hundreds of options nearby

  • Cancel a few hours before if plans changed (which they often did!)

  • Use it in many countries, even while traveling

It removed the mental barrier of “I don’t know where to go or what to do” and replaced it with “I can do something I enjoy today.”

The Mental Health Shift

What surprised me most wasn’t the physical results — it was how I felt mentally. Each time I showed up for myself, I came home lighter, calmer, and more present with my baby. That ripple effect made me a better mom, partner, and friend.

It reminded me that self-care isn’t a luxury — it’s the foundation for everything else.
