8 Simple Rituals That Keep Me Grounded as a Digital Nomad Mama

Life doesn’t have to be rushed to be full. Living here in Bali has shown me just how much beauty there is in slowing down — in leaving space between things and letting the day unfold with ease.

As a digital nomad mama, I’ve shaped my daily rhythm to support calm, connection, and presence. I don’t plan too much on purpose — I know that keeping things simple helps me feel balanced and at ease.

These small rituals aren’t about being productive or getting more done. They’re just quiet, grounding moments that help me stay steady — and grateful — in the middle of work, motherhood, and daily life in this beautiful part of the world.

1. Morning Matcha (Or an Iced Latte on Tired Days)

Most mornings begin with a quiet moment and a cup of matcha — earthy, comforting, and softly energizing. On days when I feel a little more tired or foggy, I happily switch to an iced latte.

That first sip has become a little daily joy. It marks the start of the day in a way that’s calm, not rushed.

2. Morning Chats with My Animals

Feeding our animals is one of the first things I do each morning, and it’s honestly a highlight. I love their excitement when they see me — the tails wagging, the anticipation, the energy.

My son is just as excited. One of his favorite things is saying good morning to our dog and cat. It’s a sweet moment of connection for all of us — part of our gentle start to the day.

I usually talk to the animals while I go through our little routine, which has naturally become a comforting ritual: the same order, the same soft rhythm. It grounds me, makes me smile, and always starts the day on a good note.

3. Working Alone in a Café

On workdays, I often take myself to a cozy café. There’s something about being in a different environment, with soft background noise and a good drink by my side, that helps me stay present and focused.

It’s not about hustle, but about creating an environment where I feel clear, calm, and in flow. A small act of independence that brings me energy and ease.

4. Listening to Something Inspiring Each Day

I try to listen to something short and inspiring every day — usually a podcast or a Headway summary. It might be a parenting insight, a new way to look at work, or just something gentle to keep my mind engaged.

Because I don’t overload my days, there’s often space to really listen — without multitasking or rushing through it.

5. Getting Outside Every Day (Even Just a Walk on Our Lane)

Bali’s warm weather and lush surroundings are a constant invitation to step outside — and I try to take it, every day. Sometimes it’s a beach walk with our dog, feeling the sand under our feet and the breeze on our faces. Other days, it’s just a peaceful walk down our lane with my son and the dog.

It doesn’t need to be long or fancy. Just those few moments under the sky are enough to bring a sense of clarity and connection back into my day.

6. Yin Yoga and Sound Healing on Mondays

Monday evenings are set aside for something really nourishing: a yin yoga and sound healing class that I try not to miss.

It’s slow, restful, and grounding — the perfect start to the week and a space where I can fully drop into my body and just be. If you’re in Bali (or anywhere, really) and want to try classes like this without committing to a single studio, I love using ClassPass — you can often get almost-free trial weeks, which makes it easy to explore different yoga spaces, sound baths, and wellness classes until you find your favorite.

7. A Weekly Ritual Just for Me

At least once a week, I try to schedule something that’s just for me. It might be a massage, a facial, or a quiet nail appointment — nothing extravagant, just a simple act of care that reminds me I'm a person, too.

These moments help me reconnect with myself outside of work and motherhood. They’re not a luxury, but a quiet little reset I’ve learned to prioritize without guilt.

8. Bedtime Rituals with My Son

Evenings in our home are intentionally calm. After dinner, I wind down with my son — sometimes we chill on the couch and watch something on our projector, other nights we just hang out, play, or read books together.

There’s no strict routine — just a gentle rhythm that helps us both relax and reconnect at the end of the day. It’s one of my favorite parts of motherhood: those soft, everyday moments that feel simple but mean everything.

Final Thoughts

These small rituals support the life I’ve chosen: one that’s soft, spacious, and intentional. I don’t try to fit too much into each day. I know that calm doesn’t come from doing more — it comes from creating space for what truly matters.

If you’re navigating motherhood, remote work, or simply longing for a gentler way of living, I hope this gives you a little inspiration to shape your own rhythm — one small ritual at a time.
